Staff recognized by Graduate School, Dean’s Staff Advisory Council

Two of our staff received well-deserved honors today:
Sarah Tisdale was given the award of Outstanding Graduate Coordinator by the CSU Graduate School at the Graduate Coordinator Appreciation Breakfast this morning. She was nominated for this honor by Dr. Jeff Pierce in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the Department of Atmospheric Science. Jeff noted that “in Atmospheric Science, we only have a graduate program, so the success of this program is critical for our department; and this program is recognized as one of the top, if not the top, graduate Atmospheric Science programs in the country. Sarah Tisdale, as our graduate coordinator, is the ‘secret sauce’ in our students’ success. Sarah goes above and beyond to help wherever she can for student growth and success. These include but are not limited to managing student applications, the recruiting process, and student visits; keeping track of all students’ forms, exams, defenses, deadlines, and room reservations; helping to facilitate professional development activities for students; and organizing department graduation, student-award, and new-student-welcome ceremonies. Most importantly, the students love her, and she is deeply invested in their individual and collective success.” Jeff further emphasized that Sarah’s mentorship has been especially vital during a challenging period for the field, helping students navigate significant uncertainty in early career opportunities with care and dedication.
Nate Gronlund was the April 2026 recipient of the Staff Award from the Dean’s Staff Advisory Council in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. Sarah Tisdale nominate him for the award. Sarah noted that “every work day, Nate brings an excellent sense of humor and commitment to helping everyone around him. He constantly seeking new information and new, more efficient ways of doing things. He’s a tireless ambassador for our students, faculty, and staff, singing the praises of those around him. Thank you, Nate!” Nate says the award reflects the hard work and collaborative efforts of the department staff, faculty, and ATS/CIRA community, and that he’s lucky to work here.
Congratulations to both Sarah and Nate! We are proud and lucky to have you as colleagues in the department. Thank you for all that you do for ATS.
