The Art of Research: David Randall
When David Randall joined Colorado State University in the summer of 1988, he and his wife bought a home perched atop a few grassy acres on a hill south of Fort Collins. For nearly 40 years, they have lived in that same spot, set back off the road amid a scattering of blue spruce trees and ponderosa pines. I visited Randall, a professor in the Department of Atmospheric Science and a University Distinguished Professor, there earlier this year. The elevated location felt well suited to someone who has made a career of attempting to better understand Earth’s atmosphere. Driving up, the sky somehow felt bigger and almost in sharper focus. “I like to have a little space,” Randall told me. “And it’s a good place to watch the weather.”
The Art of Research is a series focused on in-depth conversations with University Distinguished Professors about their work and careers. Read David Randall’s story.
