Colorado Climate Center

The Colorado Climate Center assists the state of Colorado in monitoring climate over time scales of weeks to years. It recognizes that climate involves complex interactions between the atmosphere, oceans, continental glaciers, and land. Vegetation is also an important factor in the climate system. The center's research contributes to a reduction in the state's vulnerability to climate variability and change.

Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS)

Founded in 1998 by Nolan Doesken of the Colorado Climate Center, CoCoRaHS is a unique, non-profit, community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail, and snow). By using low-cost measurement tools, stressing training and education, and utilizing an interactive web site, CoCoRaHS aims to provide the highest quality data for natural resource, education, and research applications.

Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE)

GLOBE is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school education and science program. It provides an opportunity for students to learn in the following ways:

  • Obtaining scientifically valid measurements in the fields of atmosphere, hydrology, soils, and land/phenology depending upon local curricula
  • Reporting data using the internet
  • Creating maps and graphs on the free interactive web site to analyze and display data
  • Collaborating with scientists and other students around the world

For teachers, GLOBE provides assistance in the following ways:

  • Guides, "hands-on" videos, and other materials
  • Support from a help desk, scientists, and other partners
  • Collaboration with other teachers and scientists worldwide
