About the Area
Fort Collins is located approximately 65 miles north of Denver in north central Colorado near the foothills on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. Fort Collins is situated at an elevation of about 5,000 feet above sea level with the foothills west of the city reaching nearly 7,000 feet above sea level. The climate is characterized by moderate temperatures, low humidities, and light winds interrupted occasionally by strong chinook and bora winds. The average monthly temperature varies from 27°F in January to 71°F in July. Average annual precipitation is 14.47 inches, most of which falls during the growing season. The area averages about 51 inches of snowfall per season, but persistent snow cover is unusual. The most snow tends to fall in March.
