Aerosol component analysis using Lab-on-a-Chip technology.
Biosketch

Yan Liu joined the Collett group in September 2007. He is currently focused on the development of a portable aerosol analyzer for real-time field study of airborne particles.

Yan Liu received both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Dr. Charles S. Henry. As a graduate student, he investigated the use of microfluidic devices for studying the fundamental problems in analytical and environmental chemistry. He developed a chemical control method to stabilize the electroosmotic flow in microchip capillary electrophoresis and he also presented a new electrode design for microchip capillary electrophoresis/electrochemistry. The systems he developed have been employed in bioanalytical (neurotransmitter, antioxidants) and environmental (aerosol) applications.

After graduation, he joined the Jacobson group at Indiana University as a postdoctoral fellow. He participated in projects involving the applications of micro- and nano-fluidic devices, including new materials for nano-fluidic devices, a new column strategy for on-chip LC, and new serpentine designs for microfluidic channels.

When not working, Yan enjoys many diverse interests such as travel, swimming, hiking, volleyball and watching movies together with his family.
